A group of Malaysian-led research teams has proudly earned their recognition from the World Health Organisation (WHO). The team was led by Fairoza Amira Hamzah, together with many gifted researchers, who have done amazing work during this pandemic, including their community-based project, website and also the WHO-recognized research paper.

The team has started with CoronaTracker - a community-based project that includes professionals, such as data scientists, medical professionals, IT developers, and also the general public, to keep track of the pandemic. It was first joined by 400 volunteers and soon increased to 1800 volunteers.

They have created a website, https://www.coronatracker.com, for data collection for further analysis as well as for the public to get updates on the Covid-19 development.

The WHO-recognized research paper produces by the team is titled “CoronaTracker: Worldwide COVID-19 Outbreak Data Analysis and Prediction” which was published by WHO on its online bulletin (https://www.who.int/bulletin/online_first/20-255695.pdf).

The paper aims to forecasts and predict COVID-19 cases, deaths, and recoveries using predictive modeling, also, to deduce the public sentiment patterns relating to health information circulation.

The team will then proceed to phase two of their research, where they plan to find out the ways of flattening the Coronavirus curve by studying the implementation of each country and the factors affecting the disease from spreading.
