About three days ago on the 16th of August 2021, the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Muhyiddin Yassin, tendered in his resignation after much pressure from Malaysians and higher ups alike.
The rise in Covid-19 cases, slow vaccination rates, a steep increase in death toll, and much political turmoil, had many demanding for new power and a way out of all the chaos. Read here and here.
He was given the responsibility as the 'caretaker' of the country, while awaiting the appointment of the nation's new prime minister.
Since then though, rumors about Ismail Sabri (Minister of Defense), taking up the post, has been floating about, and Malaysians have not been so nice about it. As a matter of fact, so many detest the idea of him as Malaysia's 9th Prime Minister.
In addition to that, according to World of Buzz, there has even been a petition going around titled 'We don’t want Ismail Sabri Yaakob to be Prime Minister Malaysia'. With reaching over 194,000/200,000 signatures at time of writing, it is evident that many stand strongly against him.
