In order to steal donations, a top student from a prestigious university in Shaanxi, China, replaced the payment QR code on a temple's donation box with his own, in order to steal donations from believers!
According to Sing Tao Daily, the man took advantage of the fact that there was no one around the donation box and quietly tore off the temple's official QR code and pasted his own QR code instead. He also knelt down three times towards the Buddha statue before leaving.
Fortunately, the man has been arrested by the police and the stolen money has been seized. After investigation, it was found that the man is a master of law who graduated from a prestigious university. He has used the same method to steal in many temples in Sichuan and Chongqing, China, involving a total amount of more than 30,000 RMB (about RM18,000). The money involved has been returned to the relevant temples.
