A driver in New Jersey passed out while driving and crashed into a pole due to hours of wearing an N95 mask but fortunately did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
The authorities believed that the driver had been wearing the mask for several hours and fainted due to excessive carbon dioxide intake as “nothing was uncovered at the accident scene that would suggest that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” wrote the Lincoln Park Police Department in a release.

According to Oriental Daily, some netizens disagreed with the police’s statement about the driver passing out due to long hour wearing of the mask, saying the police are suggesting that wearing an N95 mask is unsafe.
In an updated post, the police said, “It was stated in the original post that we “believed” the excessive wearing of an N95 mask was a contributing factor to this accident,” after reiterating that “police officers are not physicians and do not know the medical history of every person we encounter.”
