Singapore's permanent resident chose to return to Malaysia to accompany his family and children on April 2 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On May 18, the man decided to return to Singapore. He was arranged to be quarantined at the four-star JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La until June 1.
The Singapore government announced earlier that anyone who insists on going abroad after March 27 must go to a designated hotel for 14 days of isolation and bear the cost of accommodation.

The man pointed out that this hotel charges SGD 95 per night, while laundry service (only five clothes) costs SGD 20 a day. The meals are SGD 40 per day. The meal could be cancelled and food delivery is allowed.
In order to save money, he only used the laundry service once, and then he washed clothes with his bare hands.
Besides, the hotel will call every day to ask about its temperature. The man chose to use his own thermometer because he was concerned about the payment of the thermometer provided by the hotel.
The man spent SGD 1723.80 (RM 5256) in 14 days. He also received a certificate issued by the hotel after the quarantine.

According to the man, he ate 28 meals at the hotel during isolation. The average meal cost was about SGD 13.35 (SGD 40 divided by three meals). The total cost was SGD 373.80.
Despite this, he still gave the hotel a good rating because of the large and air-conditioned hotel room, beautiful scenery, many TV channels, fast Internet speed. He also mentioned that the overall price is reasonable.
He posted the certificate on a Facebook group and shared the costs he had to bear during his isolation. This has caused heated uproar discussion.
