With all the hustle and bustle of modern fast-paced life, I'm sure many people would often think back to the good old days when you're still a kid, playing games with friends and having the time of your lives. Here are 10 games that bring us all back in time with a wave of nostalgia.
1. Congkak
Although Congkak is more commonly played among girls, it can be played by almost anybody. This classic traditional game is one of the ways you spend time with friends and family and will leave you wanting to play again and again.
2. Rock-Paper-Scissors
Or as Malaysians like to call it - One, Two, Jus! This timeless game will never go old. Besides the normal rock-paper-scissors, Malaysian kids came up with many ways to play the game, each having different rules.
3. Different Variations of Tag/Catch
Also known as "Fire and Ice" or "Police and Theif". Whatever you call it, this game holds the most fun and laughter when we were kids.
4. Paper Fortune Telling
Another classic game played among children. Back in the day we would fold a piece of paper and write down fun and hilarious "predictions" behind each colour or number. It's really funny now to see how innocent we were to believe that all those could come true.
5. Eraser Game
This game is often played among primary schoolers. Any eraser is good to play but the experts know that those with Pokemon erasers or country flag erasers are the best!
6. Conquer
Remember when we would spare one grid exercise book to just play this game or just tear out a page from our Mathematics exercise books? This game is more or less like chess but played with either different markings or different coloured pens.
7. Thumb Wrestling
This game may look like nothing much, but it certainly required some strategy and determination to take victory home. It's not easy to trick your opponent into putting his/her thumb down first before striking at the ideal moment.
8. Hopscotch
Also called as "kentinting", we would often draw boxes on the ground using chalk back in our primary school days. Due to chalkboards being used in primary school, chalks are easily available and accessible. All we had to do was to clean up after playing using a wet cloth.
9. Lat Tali Lat
Back in the day, we would often hear kids shouting "Lat tali lat tali tam plom" while playing this game. This is sort of like rock-paper-scissors, but the game is so simple that you only flip your hand so the palm is facing up or down.
10. Pepsi-Cola
It is always a bold move to play this game because the game always results in a pair of dirty school shoes for each player. Then everyone will be lectured by their parents. Nevertheless, the game is still full of fun! At the end of the game, some of us would steal small pieces of white chalk from the classroom and colour our shoes white again. Haha!
After all these years, childhood memories made from playing these games will forever be in our heart. No matter sweet or bitter, they are still part and parcel of life.
