Desk plants are those plants which could grow under 1-meter height and could be center pieces on the desk, table or cabinet. Desk plant usually using medium size planter or pot between 90mm to 200mm wide and the height up to 300mm. If the planter is too big, the desk plant will occupy too much space on the desk. Besides that, the plant should match with the size of the planter to create a balance visual ratio between the potted plant and the desk. So, the below are the recommended desk plants which are suitable for placing on the desk.

Aglaonema

Normally Aglaonema grown under 1 feet and it is most presentable in the size around 1-foot height. It prefers low light or shade corner and high in humidity. It could grow well without receiving much sunlight but cannot tolerate drought condition. Aglaonema prefer high humidity and we need to watering more frequent. It needs watering at least twice per week to make it grows lively. Therefore, it is suitable to place in the toilet or in the bedroom where receiving less sunlight and higher in air humidity. Aglaonema will be more presentable when it placed in the window sill, cabinet or desk beside the window where could receiving bright but indirect sun light. It is because the colour of the leaves will be fading if it being exposed under direct sunlight and become more vibrant if exposed under bright but indirect sunlight. 

Syngonium

Same as Aglaonema, Syngonium is more presentable when it is grown below 30cm height and place it under the area where receiving bright and indirect sunlight. However, it cannot tolerate drought. Frequent watering is needed, at least watering twice per weeks. Besides that, Syngonium cannot tolerate direct sunlight, direct sunlight will make its leaves burned. So, it must be placed under roof or place it indoor. Same as Aglaonema, if the Syngonium expose too much direct bright sunlight will make the colour of leaves fading. 

  
Spathiphyllum  

Spathiphyllum may grow up to 3 feet, it is preferring partial shade or full shade. Require high water level and need to watering daily. Lack of water will cause the leaves of the leaves of spathiphyllum become droopy and wilted if cannot provide the water in time. The spathiphyllum will reach mature stage and starts flowering after 9 to 12 months. Spathiphyllum have been identified by NASA as one of the most efficient air purifying plants. It is suitable to placing in the bedroom where low in light exposure and may help us to purify the volatile organic components in the air and improve our sleep quality.

    
Sansevieria

Sansevieria may grow up to 1.5 feet, it could be turn to floor plants also by using tall planter or high rack to alleviate its height. However, it is more suitable to be present as desk plant when it is grown between 10cm to 20cm. Sansevieria could tolerance wide range of light intensity and drought tolerance. Therefore, it could survive with a little amount of sunlight and water provision. We just need watering once for every two weeks, and place in some corner which could receive some natural indirect sunlight. So, you do not need to bring it out and expose it under sunlight or pay extra attention to take care of it. It is suitable to place in anyplace in the house with low maintenance jobs.

  
ZZ Plant

Same as Sansevieria plants, ZZ plant may grow up to 1.5 feets, it could tolerance wide range of light intensity and drought tolerance. However, compare to Sansevieria it may cause sun-burn leaves if it being exposed to strong and direct sunlight. The system of sun scorch may show on the leaves surface. It could be turn into floor plant with the help of tall planter or alleviate planter rack. The waxy leaves surface and bulb roots make it high tolerance to drought. It is suitable to place under the condition of low in humidity like living room, dining room or kitchen. It waxy green leaves is also a good choice to place it in study room and make our eyes to relax after using our eyes in study for a long time.

    
Asparagus Fern/Foxtail Fern

Asparagus fern may grow up to 2m if grown in a bigger pot. However, it may control its size within 30cm if we using a smaller pot to make it as a desk plant. Asparagus fern may tolerate partial shade or full sun. Its leaves will start to falling if the plant lack of sun light exposure. Asparagus is high drought tolerance plants due to its tuber roots. However, we still need to watering at least once a week. If keep the plant in moist, the plant will grow faster and bushier. Asparagus fern suitable to place on window sill, besides window or entrance where abundance of bright and indirect sunlight available

Boston Fern/Maiden hair fern

We may use smaller pot in control the size of boston fern and maiden hair fern. Use a smaller pot to keep it under one feet and we may place it in the desk or cabinet. Boston fern and maiden hair ferns love grow under partial shade or full shade. Besides that, it prefers high humidity and tolerance drought. However, if it is under drought condition, the leaves will become brown and affect its aesthetic value. Therefore, Boston fern and maiden hair fern are suitable to place in the washroom where is high humidity and low in sun light.
