According to Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, the Southwest District Police Chief, the suspect was apprehended after the victim, a 44-year-old Australian tourist, lodged a complaint about the theft. The suspect is set to be remanded at the Balik Pulau Magistrates Court for further investigation under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code.

"If found guilty, the suspect could face up to seven years of imprisonment, a fine, or both," stated Sazalee in an official statement.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may be part of a syndicate involved in multiple thefts on commercial flights. The police revealed that similar cases occurred in November and December last year. In those incidents, three Chinese nationals aged between 51 and 61, all from Hunan, were arrested and later charged in court.

"We believe all these cases are interconnected," Sazalee added, highlighting the possibility of organized criminal activity targeting passengers on flights.

Sazalee also urged passengers to remain vigilant and take precautions with their valuables during flights. He advised storing belongings in places easily visible to prevent theft.

"Community cooperation is crucial to maintaining a safe and conducive environment," he emphasized.
