The Chinese authorities have made the trade and consumption of wild animals illegal after the COVID-19 outbreak. This is good news for many people around the world. And the better news is, Shenzhen is now extending the ban to dogs and cats. However, it is said that most Chinese people have never eaten and do not plan to consume dog and cat meat.
The Humane Society International (HSI), an animal advocacy organization, praised the decision of Shenzhen city government. "This really could be a watershed moment in efforts to end this brutal trade that kills an estimated 10 million dogs and 4 million cats in China every year," said, China policy specialist for HSI, Dr. Peter Li.
