KOTA BHARU: A woman was found dead after her stepson chopped off her head with a machete in Kampung Dalam Senduk, Jerek in Gua Musang, yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened at 4:55 in the evening and the body of the 54-year-old woman was found in the living room of her home.
Gua Musang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, said the 39-year-old suspect, who is also a mental patient as well as a drug addict, came to the police station to surrender after the incident.
"The suspect came to the Bertam Police Station and informed that he had killed his stepmother at home with a machete.
A search of a house at the scene found a woman in a blood-stained condition with a severed neck as a result of being chopped with a machete.
"The suspect is a drug addict as well as a mental patient and is currently detained for further investigation. The police also found a machete believed to be used by the suspect at the scene," he said when contacted yesterday.
Today it was reported that the suspect was remanded for 7 days starting today to next Wednesday.
Gua Musang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, said the remand order against the 39-year-old suspect was issued by Kelantan State Court Director Zaman Mohd Noor at the Gua Musang Magistrate's Court, today.
"A remand order against the suspect for seven days to assist in the investigation according to Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said when contacted, here today.
