National men’s singles champion Lee Zii Jia advanced to the top 16 at the Paris 2024 Olympics after defeating Spanish player Pablo Abian yesterday.
Zii Jia secured the win with a score of 21-10, 21-13 in just 34 minutes at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena.
The former Asian and All-England champion appeared relaxed yet energetic throughout the match.
Many badminton fans tuned in to watch the 26-year-old’s performance. However, viewers of a local channel expressed dissatisfaction with the comments made by a sports commentator during Zii Jia’s match.
Fans took to social media to voice their displeasure, noting that the commentator’s remarks were irrelevant to the game.
In the shared video, the commentator said, “It doesn’t matter if he gave the cold shoulder to fellow journalists before departing for Paris…that’s his choice. But after this, he shouldn’t isolate himself too often from those who are trying to boost his image.”
Fans generally felt that such comments were unnecessary, and that the commentator should have remained professional.
Some also adviced that he should have provided more motivational and energetic commentary for the viewers.
