The Kedah State Road Transport Department (JPJ Kedah) recently shared a heartwarming interaction on their official Facebook page, detailing an encounter between two of their enforcement officers and a female motorcyclist in Langkawi. The post, which has since gone viral with over 173,000 views and 1,900 reactions, showcases a thoughtful approach to road safety and community care.
The incident began as a routine traffic stop when JPJ officers flagged down the motorcyclist for not possessing a valid motorcycle license. During the stop, one officer politely inquired if the woman was a local and requested her driving license. It soon became clear that the woman did not have one, which the officer identified as her first traffic violation.
Upon inspecting her motorcycle, the officer confirmed that it met the necessary road specifications and was in good condition. However, attention soon turned to the rider's helmet.
The motorcyclist's helmet was found to be her second offence. The officers noted that the helmet lacked the required SIRIM certification, deeming it unsafe for use on the road. Instead of issuing a summons, the officers seized the non-compliant helmet but, in an unexpected gesture, replaced it with a brand-new helmet that adhered to safety standards.
The enforcement officers also took the opportunity to educate the woman on road safety. They emphasized the importance of wearing proper safety gear and obtaining a valid motorcycle license to ensure her safety and that of other road users.
The Facebook post about this encounter quickly garnered attention, with many praising the officers for their compassionate approach. The act of gifting a helmet rather than imposing a fine demonstrated a commitment to safety and a willingness to educate rather than punish.
By turning a potential penalty into a teachable moment, JPJ Kedah highlighted the importance of road safety while earning widespread admiration for their thoughtful actions.
