BALING - An elderly man and his two grandchildren survived after the car they were traveling in lost control and hit an electric pole on the shoulder of Jalan Kuala Pegang-Parit Panjang, Kampung Mengkuang Masjid here today.
In the incident at about 1pm, the driver, a 70-year-old elderly man, was said to have failed to control the Proton Wira car due to a headache.
The video of the car driven by the man was seen zig-zagging on the road before hitting an electric pole went viral on Facebook.
Baling District Police Chief, Superintendent Shamsudin Mamat said, they received the video recording at 2.10 pm and made the first report for further investigation.
"The results of the investigation found that the car was driven by a senior citizen with two grandsons aged 14 and 15 years.
"The man involved is said to have just fetched his two grandchildren from Sekolah Menengah Agama Yayasan Khairiah Kampung Pisang, Kupang to be taken back to his house in Kampung Paya Besar," he said here today.
He said, upon arriving at the scene, the driver who had a fever claimed to have a headache that caused him to lose control and slip onto the shoulder of the road on the left and hit an electric pole.
"The victim and his two grandchildren did not suffer any injuries," he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Regulation 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Regulation 10 LN 166/59).
