Overthinking is agonizing. Overthinking is repetitive. Overthinking is painful.
Overthinking is all of the above, and many more. While it may be hard to grapple with this issue, finding the underlying causes and solutions to heal yourself is an act of self-care and love.
So what are the things that constantly put your mind in a state of worry? How do you seek help, if not from others, but yourself?
1. Distract yourself
Whenever you feel like getting pulled into those dark thoughts again, choose happiness over despair. Do the things that give you contentment and satisfaction. Start finding things that can distract you from overthinking, such as watching cooking shows or even mukbang! You are your own key of happiness.
2. Stop expecting perfect scenarios
Nothing and nobody is perfect. Always remind yourself not to have high expectations of people or situations, because you'll end up disappointing yourself. Whatever circumstances that arise, know that you can always be mindful of the outcome.
3. Put your fear behind
Divert your channel of thought by identifying your fear and putting it in the past. Constantly fearing the things that worry you the most will only put a toll on your mental health. If doing this seems hard, then have a hearty talk with a family member or friend to ease your worries.
4. Live in the moment
No one can control the future. Being worried of it will only rob your happiness and make you constantly unsatisfied of the present. If you've received good news on something that you worked so hard for, cherish and celebrate it with your loved ones. Stop planning on how you should take the next step, that's for later!
5. Embrace your flaws
Manifest these positive thoughts: you are smart, you are worthy, you are beautiful. Don't ever let anybody bring you down by telling you otherwise. You know your worth so embrace whatever good values you have and set your heart into realizing them.
