Looks like we're getting an Omicron vaccine soon, by the looks of it.
Pfizer's CEO, Albert Bourla has disclosed that they are currently manufacturing the COVID-19 vaccine doses since some countries have already expressed their demands. According to Bourla, the Omicron-specific vaccines will also be modified to target other variants that are currently circulating. Based on the progress, The Omicron-targeted vaccines should be ready to be administered around March.
Although it isn't clear if an Omicron vaccine is truly needed, Pfizer is well prepared if that were to be the case in the future. Some experts, however, argue that the vaccines aren't necessary as "sooner or later everybody's going to be infected," and that the administration of such vaccines may be too late, due to its highly transmissible nature.
"The hope is that we will achieve something that will have way, way better protection particularly against infections, because the protection against hospitalizations and severe disease is reasonable right now, with the current vaccines as long as you are having let's say the third dose," Bourla concluded.
