In a recent incident in Kampung Pantai Cicaru, Changlun, Kedah, a series of large potholes on the road caused several vehicles to become trapped, highlighting the pressing need for improved infrastructure maintenance.
Photos of the incident were shared on the Facebook page "PoCket Kedah," which showed the scale of the issue. The caption accompanying the post read, "According to initial information, this happened in Kampung Bendang Cheruk, Changlun, Kedah. This is really terrible. It endangers public safety."
The images captured the plight of affected motorists. Two cars were seen with their left sides lodged deeply in the potholes, and another photo showed a motorcycle with both its front and rear wheels completely submerged. Concerned passers-by were seen working together to rescue the trapped motorcycle.
The damaged road is a two-lane passage, with massive potholes situated in the middle of one lane, posing significant risks to vehicles traveling in both directions.
According to China Press, Kubang Pasu District Police Chief Mohamad Rizuan confirmed that complaints had been received at the Changlun Police Station, primarily caused by construction contractors, regarding vehicle damages by the hazardous road. However, no official reports of accidents on this stretch of road have been filed to date.
The incident has sparked debate online, with some netizens suggesting that the potholes might have resulted from a water pipe project conducted by Syarikat Air Darul Aman (SADA). In response, SADA denied any involvement, stating that the roadworks in the affected area were not part of their operations.
