Road users along the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Bridge were met with a horrifying sight on Monday morning (Aug 19) when a tragic accident resulted in the death of a Malaysian man in the most gruesome manner.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:20 AM as 31-year-old Balakrishnan Marimutu was traveling from the Tuas Checkpoint in Singapore back to his home in Johor Bahru. According to reports from Oriental Daily, Balakrishnan, who worked at a safety, life-saving, and firefighting equipment supplier in Singapore, was riding his motorcycle when he allegedly lost control. The motorcycle overturned, causing him to suffer severe head injuries that resulted in his death on the spot.
The severity of the accident was such that Balakrishnan's head was completely severed from his body, leaving those who witnessed the aftermath in shock. Photos of the grisly scene quickly spread on social media, drawing attention to the dangers faced by road users every day.
Iskandar Puteri district police deputy Mohammad Azlan confirmed the incident and stated that the victim's body had been transported to Johor Bahru General Hospital for an autopsy. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1987, which covers dangerous and reckless driving causing death.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of road conditions and the importance of exercising caution while driving.
