Apparently, the French label's $825 festive calendar isn't getting much love at the moment. Despite its grandeur packaging and so-called lavish contents, social media was quick to reveal the ugly truth.
Based on a series of unboxing videos which have now gone viral, user @elise_harmon's shocking review has left TikTokers (and Instagram) dumbfounded.
Inside the massive perfume-shaped packaging was a series of dates, beginning on December 5 instead of the first day of the month, in which Harmon was pretty bummed about. "This has to be a joke,” Harmon laughed as she opened a box labeled 9, revealing a sheet of stickers.
Among other small items were revealed to be: a Chanel-stamped wax seal, a mini body cream, a flip book, mini lipsticks, string bracelet, temporary tattoos, a perfume-shaped paperweight, a money clip, a magnet and a mini dust bag.
Following the backlash, Chanel's Instagram account was flooded by sarcastic comments from irate users. Some even compared the dull trinkets to Chanel's normal samples and even demanded an explanation from the brand.
Gregoire Audidier, who's the international communication and client experience strategy director for Chanel Fragrance & Beauty- defended the brand by saying that each item are detailed on the Chanel website, meaning customers can see everything. He further noted that the date was a homage to the iconic Chanel No. 5 fragrance, hence the sequence.
