Failing to pay rent has forced a husband and wife to live inside their Proton Perdana car after being evicted from their flat two weeks ago. The couple's decision to turn their car into a 'home' in Taman Bukit Kenangan has drawn attention from many. Their car is surrounded by personal belongings and covered with old plastic bags and cardboard.
The car is parked near the garbage area, and the presence of cats, pigeons, and chickens adds to the discomfort for nearby residents. Ana Aziz, a scrap metal collector, expressed sympathy for the couple's situation and believes something needs to be done to tidy up their belongings.
"I sympathize with their situation; this is not a place to live, but their personal belongings have accumulated and sometimes obstruct public pathways. It's dangerous for the elderly and children," she said. A resident, responsible for managing the cleanliness of the block, expressed concerns that the couple's pile of belongings might attract snakes and other pests.
"This situation is disruptive and very unclean. Besides personal items, open food is left, attracting pests," she said. Another resident also mentioned receiving numerous complaints involving the couple.
According to him, he has known the couple for several years and described them as quiet, never causing trouble for other residents. "Most of us don't have a problem with them living inside or near this flat, but the issue is that they leave their belongings scattered around, affecting the overall appearance," he said. Meanwhile, the committee member of the flat's residents, mentioned that the couple has received assistance several times, including from relevant authorities.
The welfare office contacted the representative of the ADUN for Kajang and informed them that they would investigate the matter. "I don't want to magnify this issue further, and my only intention is to help them find a new home in any way possible," he said.
Local publication, NST surveyed the area but was unable to meet the individuals involved and requested not to be disturbed when residents contacted them. Inspection of their living unit found it locked, and it is understood that this is not the first time the couple has been evicted from their flat.
