A couple was arrested last night after they attempted to flee from a police checkpoint in Jalan Kuah-Padang Matsirat, Langkawi.
During the incident, which happened around 7 PM, The couple drove a Toyota Avanza and had collided with several other vehicles before accidentally swerving into a ditch.
According to the Langkawi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari, before the incident, the car was detected in a suspicious condition by the roadside near the Kelana Mas Trade Center. "A team of members of the Langkawi District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND ) assisted by an MPV in the Op Tapis task tried to conduct an inspection after suspecting there was drug abuse activity in the car," he added.
"Police officers then arrested the male suspect and his girlfriend, aged 42 and 34 respectively, for further investigation," he concluded. The urine screening found that the male suspect was positive for morphine, while the woman was positive for methamphetamine.
