As if being on your period isn't hard enough, your hormones decide to act up and give you a face full of acne at the same time. This is one of the many reasons I cry excessively during my period.
Well, cry no more because a Twitter user, @tufairies decided to help the ladies out by sharing how to get rid of hormonal acne!
According to his Tweet, he explains the 3 phases women go through throughout their menstruation cycle, the changes in our cycle, and what we need to focus on in our skincare routine.
So we have compiled all the phases here and included some skincare ingredients recommended by a pharmacist in a Vogue article for each phase:
Menstruation Phase (Day 1-6)
Hormone levels drop which causes the skin to look dull. According to the tweet, we need to focus on reducing inflammation and cell turnover. According to the pharmacist in the Vogue article, these are the best ingredients to include in your skincare routine during this time: thermal water, aloe vera, calendula, Centella Asiatica, argan oil or marine glycogen.
Follicular and Ovulation Phase (Day 7-15)
This is a good phase for us girls because our estrogen hormone rises and peaks making out skin look glowy but that doesn't mean it doesn't require care! The tweet suggests that we focus on nourishment and treatment. The pharmacist recommends using vitamin C, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or retinoids.
Luteal Phase (Day 16-28)
During this phase, our progesterone hormone rises and peaks which makes sebum and sweat increase. According to the tweet, our main focus during this time should be to decrease oil and clean out our pores. During this phase, the pharmacist suggests using quinoa extract and hyaluronic acid.
