COVID-19 has spread to many countries. The Malaysian government also officially announced the Movement Restriction Order effective from March, 18 to March, 31. On the other hand, the number of daily confirmed cases in China has been steadily decreasing from more than 2,000 cases to no more than double digits currently. In other words, China has managed to reduce the number of confirmed cases by 200 times within two months. How did this happen?

1. Centralized system

A centralized system means that the power of the country is highly concentrated in the central government, while the power of local governments is relatively small. This kind of system allows the central government to effectively organize, mobilize and coordinate available resources when any crisis or pandemic occurs. Decision made by the central government can also reach various places quickly. Therefore, this system has allowed China to increase efficiency in its effort of fighting against COVID-19.

2. Built new hospitals

Due to the insufficient beds and medical equipment to meet the demand of COVID-19 infected patients, China decided to build new hospitals.

They used ONLY 10 days to complete the construction of "Huoshenshan Hospital".

On the other hand, the "Leishenshan Hospital" was completed in half a month!

3. Deploy human resources

As soon as the outbreak of COVID-19 happened, their government quickly ordered the deployment of medical staff in other provinces to Wuhan, the most affected area. It is not an easy task to mobilize huge human and medical resources in such a short time, but China has done it!

4. Use drones and AI to make sure people don't leave the house

China used an AI face recognition system and drones to monitor their people and find out those people who left their houses without masks and proper reasons. The local police will advise the people to go home.

Some of the countermeasures above have been criticized by many people in Europe and the United States, and even some local people in China, saying that they have lost basic human rights. Even in the face of opposition, China still adheres to its system and now they have proved that its methods are effective. Besides, many European and American media have pointed out that it is not easy to replicate China’s anti-pandemic model in other countries because they did not have the executive power of the Chinese regime. Second, this system involves social and human rights issues. Once this system is implemented in other countries, it will attract opposition from local human rights organizations.

Anyhow, hopefully, the outbreak of COVID-19 would be solved soon.
