According to Sinchew, Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Ir. Wee Ka Siong said that in order to review the harsher penalties of the Road Transport Act 1987 on drink driving and listen to public opinions, the Ministry opens an online questionnaire survey, and hoping that the public will actively answer.
In a post on Facebook today, he pointed out that the Ministry of Transport is very concerned about issues related to people ’s safety, especially drunk driving accidents that cause casualties. The Ministry has issued a notice on May 9, saying that it will review the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), especially on Section 41 to Section 45, to provide heavier penalties to drunk drivers.
According to The Star,
"We are not encouraging drunk people to drive because it is feared that they will cause accidents. It will not just risk their lives but also the lives of other road users," he said in a Facebook post on Monday (May 4).
The government wants to listen to the public's opinion and get reviews from people's answers on the measures of the Road Transport Act 1987 on drink driving issues.
People are encouraged to participate in the survey from now on until June 4.
