Does Slimmer Mean Healthier?

16-Jun-2020
By Huan Lui

Chronic diseases like heart diseases, diabetes and so on are always associated with being fat. However, does this mean slim people are healthier and free from these diseases? Well, the answer is NO.

Take losing weight as example. Weight loss might also mean your body is losing water, muscle and bone density. This could lead to hidden obesity where the percentage of fat in your body is high while the muscle mass is low.

Using a wrong method to lose weight will not only cause the loss of water and muscle, but also rarefaction of bone. So, getting skinny all of a sudden is not something to get excited about. This might be due to diabetes or other unknown diseases.

We should always keep in mind that being skinny does not mean you are perfectly healthy, either mentally or physically. Some people who are too obsessed in becoming skinny turn out suffering from mental problem like depression and aneroxia, others experience malnutrition followed by decrease in immunity.

Therefore, instead of trying to look slim all the time but not doing it correctly, we should make sure our body is healthy.
