With our positive case numbers only headed one way (up), and people probably still getting stuck at home for quite a while, more people are opting for food delivery instead of cooking. But, as we all know, every single point of contact is a possible point of transfer for the virus. So, the next time you order food delivery, keep these steps in mind!
Step 1 - Prepare Your Cutleries
After ordering, start preparing your cutleries and utensils according to what you've ordered. Do you need plates or bowls? Spoons or chopsticks? Clean them all once before using.
Step 2 - Receive Your Order
When the delivery person arrives, request for them to place it at your door or hang it on the fence, then collect it after they have left. You can even purchase a simple RM10 table or rack just for this purpose! This way, you protect yourself and the delivery person at the same time. Remember to still keep your mask on though!
Step 3 - Unpack Your Food
Try to disinfect the outermost packaging if you can, then carefully take your food out. Pour all your food into the previously prepared plates and bowls, being careful not to touch any of the food (not even french fries!). Throw away the given packaging as soon as possible because you never know where it's been.
Step 4 - Heat It Up
Yes I know you're already starving, but if you have a microwave at home, it is suggested to take 1 or 2 minutes to heat up your food again. The high temperatures will kill leftover bacteria. Plus, warm food tastes much better than cold food.
Step 5 - WASH YOUR HANDS
You should be washing your hands between each step, but just in case you've forgotten, wash those hands (WITH SOAP) right before eating!
If you follow these steps every time you order food, you'll be doing yourself and your family a huge favor by reducing the risk of the virus spreading.
