Jocelyn Chia's comments have made her the talk of the town overnight, and the media has dug up information related to her. 

Born And Raised In Singapore

According to the Oriental Daily News, Jocelyn's Chinese name is "Xie Bizhi" (谢必孜), and she is 39 years old this year. On her personal website, she describes herself as a stand-up comedian, actress, and host. Although the Singapore government has stated that Jocelyn Chia is no longer a Singapore citizen, she was indeed born and raised in Singapore. She claims to currently reside in the United States.

A Six-Figure Earning Lawyer 

She used to work as a corporate lawyer from 2006 to 2009. Although her time in the field of corporate law was not very long, she earned a six-figure income in US dollars per year, which is approximately millions of Malaysian Ringgit. In 2014, Jocelyn revealed in an interview that her initial dream was to become a lawyer for the United Nations, the US Department of State, or Capitol Hill. However, she later became a corporate lawyer due to the lure of working in a large law firm.

Road To Becoming A Stand-Up Comedian

In fact, as early as her first year of studying law, Jocelyn realized that law was not her passion. Eventually, after getting involved in stand-up comedy, she found her true calling and decided to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian. In 2009, she made the bold decision to give up her high-income job as a corporate lawyer because standing on stage and performing speeches excited her.

Jocelyn showcased outstanding performances and won awards in numerous comedy and stand-up competitions, such as the "Comedy Newcomer Award" at the 2018 Asian-American Television and Film Festival. She actively performs stand-up comedy at various local comedy clubs. She has also been recognized as one of the best stand-up comedians in Singapore.

She Did Comedy Shows In Malaysia Before

According to the Malaysian newspaper "China Press," Jocelyn has performed stand-up comedy in Malaysia on multiple occasions. On July 7, 2018, she participated in a large-scale performance of "Comedy Central Stand-Up Asia!" in Malaysia. She also held personal stand-up comedy shows in Malaysia in October 2018 and February 2020. Interestingly, both of these shows were organized by companies that were involved in controversies related to insulting religions last year. Now, the controversy surrounding Jocelyn's jokes is escalating. It goes to show the impact of the saying "Loose lips sink ships."
