10,000 Students Found To Have Skipped SPM Amidst Trend of Influencers Promoting Alternative Career Paths Promising Lavish Lifestyle

It was announced earlier this week that 10,160 out of 383,685 students failed one of the most important exams of their lives, the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

Since then, Malaysians have expressed their idea that it may be due to some employment routes that don't seem to require schooling.

According to BERNAMA, social media influencers who propagate the idea that you don't need an education in this example, an SPM certification to succeed and get wealthy are to blame for the student's decision to forego taking their SPM exams.

The chairman of the Parent Action Group of Education (PAGE), Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim, stated that because they are not receiving the right direction, kids are becoming influenced by "attractive career paths" like influencers.

Some kids see being influencers as a quick way to make money without having to go to school or have any credentials. Some even think they can work as food delivery riders and make a respectable living, so they can skip SPM.

"Skipping the SPM exams after finishing Forms 1 through 5 is a big loss, but for those who don't have the right support, interest, or academic aptitude, this is just a stage of their life," she added.
