Taking to his social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter), Tunku Ismail expressed his firm stance, saying, "Action has been taken, and the culprits have been arrested. Zero tolerance in Johor." His remarks came in response to the circulation of videos on Facebook, showing some male participants cross-dressing during the event, sparking outrage.

Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar confirmed that three participants were arrested for allegedly engaging in indecent and lewd behavior during the fun run. The individuals were detained at a hotel in Desaru late last night.

The run, which was organized by the Johor Baru Hash House Harriers, attracted criticism for the behavior of some of its participants. However, the president of the organization, Datuk A. Magendran, clarified that the fun run was intended as a charitable event and not meant to promote any form of sexuality.

In a related statement, the management of the Lotus Desaru Beach Resort & Spa, where the event took place, distanced itself from the controversy. Indra Gandhi, the group operations director, posted on Facebook that the resort's involvement was limited to providing accommodation and meals for the 2,000 participants.

"This charitable gathering, which welcomed over 2,000 participants from 42 countries, was organized by the Pan-Asian Hash group to promote community engagement and celebrate international camaraderie," the statement read. Gandhi emphasized that all external activities were solely managed by the fun run organizers, and the resort was not involved in any planning or execution of non-hospitality-related events.

Lotus Desaru also acknowledged the community's concerns about certain aspects of the event. "We remain committed to fostering positive relationships with the local community and ensuring that future events are conducted with increased sensitivity and awareness," Gandhi added.

The incident has drawn significant public attention, with the authorities taking swift action against those involved. The Regent's firm stance and the involvement of law enforcement reflect Johor's commitment to maintaining cultural values and standards in public events.
