Parts of New Economic Stimulus Plan "PENJANA"

On June 5, the prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has introduced a new economic stimulus plan called PENJANA to assist businesses and the Malaysians as the country strives to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. MY30 programme (June 15 until December 31, 2020)

With this programme, Malaysians will only need to pay RM30 for an unlimited travel pass that can be used with Rapid Bus and Rapid Rail services in the Klang Valley. This programme is expected to reduce the difficulty of those who depend on public transport to travel around.

2. 1GB Free Internet Access (until December 31, 8 am to 6 pm)

Telcos such as Maxis, Digi, Celcom and Umobile as well as Yoodo and Tunetalk will provide 1GB free Internet access to websites related to education, government websites and pandemic situations. 

3. Continuation Of Salary Subsidy Plan

To solve the problem of unemployment among the people, the government will allocate nearly RM 9 billion to benefit 3 million employees through several measures.

Under this plan, the government will extend the salary subsidy plan for up to 3 months and allocate RM 5 billion so that each employee can receive a monthly salary subsidy of RM 600, and each company can benefit up to 200 employees.

This salary subsidy scheme was welcomed by employers and had successfully saved 2.2 million jobs within 3 months.

4. Employment Incentive Program

In order to encourage employers to hire unemployed people, the government will launch an incentive scheme for hiring youth and unemployed people. It is expected to benefit 300,000 unemployed people.

If people under the age of 40 are hired, the government will subsidize employers with RM 800, On the other hand, employers that hire those over 40 or people with disabilities will receive a monthly subsidy of RM 1,000. This measure will be maintained for 6 months.
