It’s time to do your income tax! Ugh!
Stop with all the complaining and anxiety, once again, Goody is here to rescue you. Here’s a simple and easy step-by-step guide to filing your taxes.
Before that, let’s find out if you must pay or not.
Are you an individual who earns an annual income of RM34,000 (after EPF deductions)? Or in other words, is your monthly income RM 2,833 after EPF deductions or about RM3,000 in net income?
If your answer is YES, you have to pay tax.
Then, when are the deadlines?
+ manual filing deadline: 30th April 2021
+ e-Filing deadline: 15th May 2021
Now, how to do it?
1. Gather your personal information
Make sure you have your latest salary statement (EA/EC form/ pay slip, your identification card (IC)/ police IC/ army IC/ international passport and if you’re not lonely, sad, dry and single like the rest of us, your marriage certificate.
2. Register and get your income tax number (for first time users)
For this step you can either
+ Go to the nearest LHDN office or
Click on online registration form under Daftar Individu, fill up the form and upload the necessary documents.
Then, wait for about three days while the LHDN processes and approves your application. Once approved, you will receive an email containing your income tax number.
3. Get the one-time PIN for e-Filing
To register or log in to your e-Filing for the first time, you’ll need a PIN – which must be provided by the LHDN.
To get it, you can choose to either
+ walk in to the nearest LHDN office, or
+ apply for it via the LHDN Customer Feedback website
Click on “Application”, followed by “e-Filing PIN Number Application” in the left menu.
Click on “Form CP55D” and fill in the PDF form.
Click on “Next” to submit your application.
Fill in the required information, and don’t forget to upload all the required documents (especially Form CP55D and a digital copy of your IC).
Submit! You should receive your PIN within seven working days.
4. First Time Login on e-Filing
Click on First Time Login.
Key in your PIN number and IC number.
Fill up a form with details such as full name, address, phone number, and also a password for future logins.
Then, verify that your name, IC number, and income tax number listed in the system is correct, and click “Submit”.
5. Login to e-Filing
Then, to login to your e-Filing account, go to their website and key in your IC number and password.
Set up a security phrase.
Then, log out and login again.
6. File your taxes.
After the headache of waiting for the PIN number, the slow internet, and the complicating procedures, you have finally reached the final step – filing your taxes.
Once you’ve done that, closed the chapter on taxes until next year.
