As the pandemic worsens in our country, not only did masks become daily essentials, so did hand sanitizers. Of course, nothing beats actually washing your hands with soap, but there will be many many situations where a sink and a tap is not within reach. Even worse, we all know how many places don't have a working soap dispenser that actually has soap in it. Therefore, to protect ourselves and the people around us, a good disinfecting hand sanitizer is a must. Then comes the problem: with so many brands out there, which one should we get?
Dettol
For anyone in Malaysia who has even thought about disinfection, Dettol is the first brand that comes to mind, even before the pandemic. Therefore, there's plenty of confidence in Dettol products as can be seen when it was swept off the racks as soon as the pandemic started. Even now, some places are still lacking Dettol hand sanitizers!
Lifebuoy
Just like Dettol, Lifebuoy is another pioneer in disinfecting products, particularly body wash. So, it's no surprise when they came up with their own brand of hand sanitizer too which has 62% alcohol content. There is also Vitamin E in their hand sanitizers which helps protect our skin for long term use.
Purell
An American brand hand sanitizer, Purell contains 70% alcohol content. It also has Vitamin E and Aloe Vera. Apparently, even the hospitals in the United States use them! Do keep in mind that they have one of the higher % of alcohol content among the commonly used hand sanitizers.
Aiken
Aiken hand sanitizers are another choice of the people. They are infused with natural Australian tea tree oil, which makes it very gentle to the skin. So, besides taking care of the germs on your hand, they also take care of your hands! *wink*
Aesop
For those who are not fans of the smell of alcohol, here's one for you! Aesop's hand sanitizer has only 58-62% of alcohol content. It does not feel sticky or dry on use and even has a faint hint of citrus! Do keep in mind that Aesop products are a little on the expensive side, so one would expect their hand sanitizers to be pricier too.
Of course, there are many other brands out there, and everyone's preferences on texture and smell is a little different, so to each their own. However, it is recommended to use ones with at least 60% alcohol content to effectively kill germs. Besides, if using hand sanitizers result in dry hands, consider pairing it with some moisturizer.
