A lorry's blind spot almost resulted in a serious accident when the driver failed to see a motorcycle in its path. The close call was captured in a dashcam video shared on social media by @update11111.
The incident occurred around 12:51 PM yesterday (10th) at a Shell station near Jalan New Bang in Taiping. The footage shows the lorry preparing to turn left at an intersection but failing to notice a motorcycle positioned just in front. This near-miss led to the motorcycle's passenger panicking and jumping off the bike, only to fall onto the road. Fortunately, the lorry managed to stop in time, avoiding a collision with the motorcyclist, and the passenger was unharmed.

Many netizens have commented that the lorry's height and the motorcycle's proximity likely contributed to the lorry driver's inability to see the bike. They recommend maintaining a safe distance from large vehicles, especially at intersections or turns, as lorry drivers must be cautious of their blind spots and manoeuvrability.
However, some commenters criticized the lorry driver, suggesting that the driver may have been intentionally pressuring the motorcycle to speed up. They noted that the lorry driver might have judged there was enough time to clear the intersection before the approaching car, a Proton X70.
In response to the incident, several individuals have called for mandatory installation of dashcams on lorries to prevent such accidents in the future. They believe that cameras could help mitigate blind spot issues and enhance road safety. The suggestion is that the Transport Ministry should enforce this measure to ensure better monitoring and prevention of similar incidents.
