Mentally Ill Kelantan Man Attacked 4 Policemen With Long Knife, Victims Badly Injured

TUMPAT - A mental patient pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to injuring 4 policemen with a long knife last Saturday.


The accused, Mohamad Azizi Seman, 42, who is also unemployed, made the confession after the charges against him were read out in front of Magistrate Kamarul Hasyimie Rosli.

According to the charge, the accused was charged with intentionally causing injury to Chong Yeong Ren, Mohd. Afifi Jamaludin, Mohamad Firdaus Mohd. Jamil and Muhammad Anuar Saidi Azmi using a dangerous weapon, namely a knife about 18 centimeters long, which can cause death.


The offense was committed by him at a house without a number in Kampung Sedar here at about 9pm on February 12.

The accused was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine or whipping or any two of those punishments upon conviction.


The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Sharil Ramli while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.


Earlier, Muhammad Sharil requested that the accused be sent to the hospital for a psychiatric examination as the man was a mental patient.


He said, apart from that, no guarantee was offered while the prosecution waited for a psychiatric report from the hospital on the accused's health status.


The court set March 17 for re-mention of the case.


Based on the facts of the case, the accused was found to have went on an angry rampage in a house after not getting money to buy drugs during the day of the incident.


Acting on the information, Inspector Yeong Ren, Inspector Mohd. Afifi along with two policemen, Corporal Mohamad Firdaus and Lance Corporal Muhammad Anuar Saidi rushed to the scene.

However, the accused did not cooperate with the police and started wielding a knife, causing the officer and the policeman to be injured on the head, back of the body, arms and hands.


All the victims were referred to Tumpat Hospital here for further treatment.

Kosmo! Online previously reported that two police officers with the rank of Inspector along with two other members from the Tumpat District Police Headquarters were seriously injured as a result of being stabbed with a knife while struggling with a man who is suspected to be insane in Kampung Sedar here.


Mohd. Afifi had to get eight stitches while Yeong Ren's back had a wound that was two centimeters long.

Apart from that, the back of Mohamad Firdaus' head was injured by nine centimeters and Muhammad Anuar Saidi was injured on the back of his hand by two centimeters.
