The National Influenza Immunisation Programme for senior citizens is set to commence on February 18, providing essential protection for those aged 60 and above.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni announced that appointment bookings for the vaccination will open via the MySejahtera application on February 14.

"The Health Director-General has confirmed that the programme will begin on February 18. The influenza vaccination will be available at selected clinics nationwide for senior citizens aged 60 and above," he stated during a press conference at the Wellness Hub Kulim and the keys handover ceremony for the Northern Zone Medical Records Centre.

The immunisation initiative is expected to benefit approximately 170,000 senior citizens across Malaysia. Lukanisman encouraged eligible individuals to take advantage of the programme for their overall health and well-being.

"We strongly urge the elderly to receive this vaccination. Their health is our priority, and we welcome any support from the private sector or state governments to enhance the implementation of this programme," he added.

In a related matter, Lukanisman highlighted the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare services by upgrading outdated clinics nationwide.

"Currently, 455 upgrade projects are in progress across the country, including 41 in Kedah alone. These initiatives are part of the broader healthcare transformation to ensure better services for the community," he said.

Lukanisman also underscored the role of the Wellness Hub initiative, which promotes a healthier lifestyle rather than functioning as a conventional health clinic.

"The Wellness Hub concept is unique. It is designed to foster an active and health-conscious community rather than just providing medical treatment. We envision it as a key development area under the 13th Malaysia Plan," he explained.

Currently, there are 33 Wellness Hubs nationwide, including three in Kedah. Nine additional hubs are planned for this year, including upgrades in Putatan, Hulu Langat, and Northeast Penang. Meanwhile, six new hubs will be established in Sandakan, Muallim, Sibuti, Kuala Selangor, Alai, and Muar.

With ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and promote preventive health measures, the Ministry of Health aims to create a healthier and more resilient society.
