High water consumption as well as low water levels at some dams and water tanks due to the current heatwave, has left those in Gagasan Murni Jaya, Kg Sri Muar and Felda Bukit Permai having a very dry Hari Raya Celebrations, having next to no water during the important festival.
Chairman of the Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh announced that to overcome the problem, the state water operator Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd had already prepared several trucks and water tanks to cover the water needs of the Johor public.
"Approximately 200 houses were affected by water supply during Aidilfitri this year compared to more than 2,000 houses last year and this time the affected areas involved around Kulai and Kluang districts."
"However, I was informed that 10 percent of the areas that experienced water supply disruptions have recovered from the third day of Aidilfitri in stages," Fazli told reporters after the Bukit Pasir State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Aidilfitri Open House at Dataran Bukit Pasir here today.
He also said that the state government had previously expected as many as 147 areas to experience water supply disruptions during Aidilfitri this year.
"Last year, apart from Kluang and Kulai, several other areas were also affected such as Labis in Segamat, Parit Sulong in Batu Pahat and several areas in Kota Tinggi."
"Thankfully this year no critical incidents were reported."
However, Fazli ensured the public that various efforts are currently being made by the Johor state government to ensure its consumers will have sufficient water supply throughout the rest of the festive season.
