Selangor, Malaysia The police have initiated an investigation in response to the online circulation of several images believed to be connected to the ongoing investigation into the tragic murder of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, a six-year-old boy with autism. These photographs began circulating on Telegram last night, sparking widespread concern and prompting swift action from authorities.
According to FMT, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan announced today that the investigation is being conducted under multiple legal frameworks, including the Official Secrets Act, the Penal Code, and the Communications and Multimedia Act. He emphasized the importance of preventing the spread of such sensitive content, urging social media users to delete any posts or comments that could lead to speculation or misinformation.
"We urge the public not to share any content classified under the Official Secrets Act. Doing so would not only jeopardize investigations but also the ongoing court case. Stern legal action will be taken against anyone found to be sharing the images," Hussein said, according to a report by Sinar Harian.
In addition to the police efforts, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has requested that social media platforms such as TikTok and Telegram remove the content related to the alleged leaks in the Zayn investigation. This move aims to control the spread of potentially harmful information and support the integrity of the investigation and court proceedings.
Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Shahrulnizam Jaafar reported that a senior police officer filed a report regarding the images at 12:15 a.m. today. This incident follows a similar occurrence earlier this month when images containing information purportedly about the case were circulated on social media. In response, Zayn's family and the investigating officer lodged reports to address the issue.
The boys parents have been charged with child neglect, charges to which they have pleaded not guilty. The case continues to unfold as authorities work diligently to uphold justice for Zayn while protecting the integrity of the legal process.
The police and other relevant authorities are calling on the public to exercise caution and responsibility when it comes to sharing information online, particularly in sensitive cases such as this. It is crucial to allow law enforcement and the judicial system to carry out their duties without interference from the spread of unverified or confidential information.
