Hey, so this is crazy. Is he okay?
This just in, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has publicly apologized to Malaysians for the 1MDB scandal and at the same time continuing to insist that he was deceived by fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low.
Based on a statement which was delievered by his son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar, the former PM expressed deep regret that the 1MDB scandal happened during his time in office as both prime and finance minister.
He apologized to Malaysians but emphasized that he believed the funds he received were political donations from Saudi Arabia, and not money siphoned from 1MDB.
While he admits that he should have taken stronger action when 1MDB concerns were first raised, he explained that he initially trusted the board’s explanations.
He now acknowledges the scale of the misconduct but insists that he is being unfairly held responsible for actions he did not knowingly commit.
The high court has yet to come to a verdict, but the former Malaysian prime minister seems to be in good hopes that the legal procedures will eventually clear his name.
