WhatsApp has been part of our lives as we use it to send text messages, voice message or video calls our friends and families almost everyday. But have you ever thought of what your life will be like if you can’t use WhatsApp anymore?
Well, the company has just confirmed that it will remove support from certain older iPhone and Android phones starting on Feb 1, 2020. MILLIONS of smartphones are expected to be impacted by the announcement.
From Feb 1, 2020, any Android devices running 2.3.7 version or older will no longer be supported, along with iPhone running iOS 8 or older. If you’re an Android user, be sure to update your operating system to at least the 4.0.3 version.
As for iPhone 4s (or newer) users, you may still update to iOS 9 or later. But those using iPhone older than iPhone 4, you are most likely to be impacted as the phones can’t update to a newer iOS.
Furthermore, WhatsApp is also withdrawing support for all Windows phones from Dec 31 this year. If you’re using a Windows phone and wish to continue using the service, the only solution will be simply upgrade your mobile phone. And remember to save all your precious conversations yea~
The Facebook-owned company will be focusing efforts on “the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use” instead. The older phones are said to “don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future”. “Because we no longer actively develop for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time ,” says the company in a blog post that also says, “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family and loved ones using WhatsApp.”
If your mobile devices are affected, we suggest you to upgrade them now!
