Our hairstyles and hairdo have a huge impact on our looks. It could be the stress, or the dirty air, but these days, hair loss and thinning hair isn't a problem reserved for old people anymore.
Are you a young person having hair problems? Do you have a growing bald spot that is worrying you? Protecting your hair takes effort, and the first thing you should do is avoiding any bad habits. Here are 5 mistakes you're making that's destroying your hair!
Mistake 1: High Water Temperatures
Yes, taking a hot shower might be soothing and comforting, but high temperatures can easily damage the scalp's sebum film and this can cause dryness or scaling. The most suitable temperature would be as close as possible to our body temperature of 37 degrees. Not only does this help wash our hair, it improves our blood circulation too. If you apply conditioner, you can consider washing it off with cooler water.
Mistake 2: Scratching Your Scalp
Do you have a bad habit of scratching your scalp? Scratching your scalp will definitely break the sebum, especially with long nails. The skin on our heads is just as delicate as the skin on our face. If you really do need to rub it, consider using your knuckles or the soft parts of your fingers. You can also get one of those scalp massagers made out of silicone!
Mistake 3: Excessive Friction and Pulling
Although it looks good in the movies when someone dries their hair out of the shower using a towel, it's probably not a good idea to do the same. Too much friction will only worsen hair loss. The best way to dry your hair is actually to press a towel on your wet hair to partially dry them, then using a larger comb to gently comb through your hair.
Mistake 4: Bad Blow-drying Habits
Those who want to get their hair dry faster would use a hairdryer. If you're in a rush, you might even use a higher temperature setting. That's a big NO NO for your hair! Not only that, blowing in wrong directions is also bad. If you really need to blow-dry your hair, use a controlled temperature and start from the root to the ends.
Mistake 5: Excessive Bleaching and Dyeing
Yes, it's pretty. Yes, it's the trend. But, no matter how good your hair quality is, it won't be able to withstand frequent contact with chemicals used in bleaching and dyeing. This, together with perming, causes the hair to become dry and frizzy.
Even though there are great hair care products out there, the health and quality of your hair and scalp comes from more than that. It's essential to properly take care of your hair while you're still young!
