ICYMI: Rejoice Japanese Manga Fans! 'ONE PIECE' Is Setting Sail In 2023
The official ONE PIECE teaser just set sail and you can join the adventure this summer.
The teaser introduces us to Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, a young, rubber-skinned teenager who sails from islands to oceans with his crew of misfits, as they search for the mysterious One Piece treasure. Joining Godoy in the Straw Hats are Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Along the way, they encounter rivals who stand in their way of hunting for the prized possession. With his super ability to stretch his limbs and outwit bad guys, few stand a chance against Luffy and his gang.
In the sneak peek, Luffy sets the scene for the epic adventures to come: "Ever since I was a kid, the sea's been calling me, so I'm setting out to follow my dreams," he says. "I'm going to be King of the Pirates – all I need is a loyal crew."
The new ONE PIECE series brings creator Eiichiro Oda's (known to fans as Oda-Sensei) popular manga to life in the franchise's first live-action adaptation. Full of colorful characters, scheming villains and a never-ending horizon to explore, the trailer hints at the swashbuckling adventure you can expect as a loyal member of the Straw Hats.
"The entire cast and crew, spanning various countries, are brimming with love for ONE PIECE," Oda-Sensei wrote in a recent letter to fans. "They're burning with passion, and I've reminded everyone involved that this should be fun."
Previously announced cast includes Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward and Chioma Umeala.
Ready to hit the sea? ONE PIECE premieres on Aug. 31.
