There were rumours circulating a while back that kids these days find it difficult to read traditional clocks as they depend so much on digital watches and clocks. Even with the widespread use of digital clocks, some people still have trouble telling the time in military time or the 24-hour format.

Many people have laughed or shook their heads at the recent story of a woman who couldn't read time in 24-hour format, missing her trip.

A young woman who wasn't sure if she was on an early morning or afternoon flight from Sandakan to Kuala Lumpur missed it, according to a Facebook post.

Her aeroplane ticket image said that her departure time was 1:15. The 1:15 indicates that, for those who fly frequently, it was a 1.15 am journey. The timing on the ticket would read 13:15 if the flight was leaving at 1:15 p.m.

It goes without saying that because she missed the flight, the young lady had to "burn" her approximately RM500 airline ticket.

According to the brother of the young lady, his sister had to take an additional leave of absence from university because of the costly aeroplane tickets back to Kuala Lumpur.

He also believed that his sister was the only one who had missed the trip, but he later learned that other people had also missed their flights due to inability to read the clock in 24-hour format.

He emphasised to everyone that they should check the time on their flight tickets if they were planning to return home.

Internet users were astounded and had inquiries regarding the entire situation. A netizen questioned why the young woman was unaware of her departure time, pointing out that customers could select the flight time when purchasing tickets.

The netizen went on to say that if the ticket had been purchased on her behalf, the young lady ought to have asked about rather than biding her time.

Another guy clarified that the airlines didn't usually operate such an early trip from Sandakan to Kuala Lumpur. That, they surmised, was part of the reason the young woman felt uncertain.

Some users also had trouble telling time in the 24-hour format, and based on the other complaints, they were unable to make their flights.
