Potential COVID-19 Drug ‘Remdesivir’ Fails First Trial

24-Apr-2020

It is reported that the remdesivir, the experimental COVID-19 drug, failed in its first randomized clinical trial.

A draft summary that accidentally went online on the website of the World Health Organisation (WHO) showed that the drug had not been successful.

Based on the result of a Chinese trial, the drug did not improve patients’ condition or reduce the pathogen’s presence in the bloodstream.

The study said that researchers studied 237 patients. 158 were given the drug and their progress was compared with the other 79 who are in a control group.

Remdesivir caused serious side effects on some patients and the drug was stopped early on 18 patients.
