Hansons Auctioneers reports that a kit specifically for hunting and ending the lives of vampires, originally owned by a British aristocrat triggered a global bidding battle before it was sold for six times its estimated price.
According to a press statement from Hansons Auctioneers, the late 19th-century box equipment once belonged to Lord William Malcolm Hailey (1872-1969), a British nobleman and former administrator of British India. The kit was eventually sold on Thursday for £13,000 (RM69,465.54).
Charles Hanson, the proprietor of the auction house, said: "Whether through fear or fascination, it's interesting to know a member of the highest aristocratic social order, a man with a place in the House of Lords, acquired this artefact." It serves as a reminder that people from all areas of life are impacted by the vampire myth, which clearly dates back hundreds or perhaps even thousand years ago.
What's in the kit?
1. Crucifixes
2. Holy water
3. Wooden stake and mallet
4. Rosary beads
5. A Gothic Bible
6. Brass candlesticks
7. Matching pistols
7. Brass powder flask
Bidders from around the world fought their ways through the bidding battle, but an anonymous bidder from United Kingdom reigned supreme and is now a proud owner of the eerie looking kit.
