Images and videos of sacks of rice and tinned sardines being set on fire at a waste dump in Temerloh, Pahang, have become popular on social media.
The photographs and videos are reported to have appeared on Facebook and TikTok yesterday, April 18th.
According to the descriptions on several posts, the tragedy happened on a shortcut heading to Rumpun Makmur-Kampung Gunung Senyum region.
It is thought that bystanders who observed the fire posted videos and images on social media.
The video shows the burning of hundreds of 10kg bags of rice and a large amount of canned sardine. Some of the cans are scorched black.
Several photographs show hundreds of cartons and bags of flour and rice vermicelli left in the area.
As reported by the New Straits Times, no one has yet stepped forward to take credit for this wasteful conduct.
The rice and other food products were dumped since they had expired and gone bad after being stored for an extended period.
Yet, the viral posts reveal that certain items, such as instant coffee, haven't yet expired.
A social media user said that the incident was committed by a politician who lost the 15th General Election.
They further stated that the food goods were scheduled to be handed to flood victims in the Temerloh and Maran areas during January.
