Recently, the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) has urged the government to abolish 24-hour operating licenses for eateries. This is to mitigate the negative impacts of late-night eating, including affecting the health of Malaysians.
The NGO also acknowledges that this is not a comprehensive solution. "Although shortening the operating hours for eateries will not completely solve the obesity issue in Malaysia, it will help reduce late-night eating among the people," said CAP President Mohideen Abdul Kader.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health stated that they will consider CAP's proposal to reduce obesity in the country.
"All eateries should be required to close by midnight for the health of Malaysians," Mohideen Abdul Kader, President of the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP).
According to research, individuals who eat late at night exceed 40% of their daily energy requirements and face a significant risk of obesity.
