Employees of Maybank Bercham branch held a protest this afternoon, demanding justice for a colleague who was allegedly a victim of sexual harassment.
The protest, organized by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE), saw the participation of the majority of the branch's staff, who voiced their concerns over the handling of the case by the bank's management.
Participants carried banners and placards criticizing the bank's management, including the head office, for allegedly neglecting the welfare of their employees.
According to a statement distributed by NUBE, the affected staff member has been subjected to sexual harassment by a supervisor for the past three years. The statement claims that the supervisor misused his position to send inappropriate messages via WhatsApp, which was accompanied by bullying and threats when the victim attempted to report the behavior.
NUBE further alleged that after the issue was brought to light, no action was taken against the perpetrator. Instead, the victim was reportedly subjected to further pressure, including being suspended from work, while the accused faced no consequences.
