A decomposing body was discovered in a river in Banting, Selangor, on December 30, raising concerns that it may be connected to the case of a 15-year-old girl, Yap Xin Yuan, who was reported missing from Cheras on December 19. According to Selangor’s Chief Police, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the body, and a DNA test will be conducted to verify whether the remains belong to Xin Yuan.
The police have arrested three individuals, including Xin Yuan’s 16-year-old boyfriend, to assist in the investigation. While no further details have been revealed at this time, Datuk Hussein assured the public that more information will be disclosed once the DNA test results are available.
Xin Yuans disappearance has raised several questions, with conflicting accounts of her whereabouts leading up to her vanishing. CCTV footage near her boyfriend's home shows her arriving by taxi in the early hours of December 19. However, Xin Yuan’s boyfriend claims she arrived at his house later that afternoon around 4 PM, only to leave an hour later. These discrepancies have led investigators to scrutinize her boyfriend’s statements, and her phone has been unreachable since December 20.
Xin Yuan had told her parents on the day of her disappearance that she was attending a lion dance practice.
