In a recent incident, a ride-share driver in the Klang Valley had an encounter with an unpaid passenger. The driver, Ahmad Azahari shared his experience as a warning to fellow drivers on Facebook.
The driver picked up a male passenger in the Bukit Tinggi area of Klang, who claimed to be from Sabah to RHB Bank in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh. This wasn't the first time the driver had encountered this individual. Previously, the same passenger had booked a ride through another popular ride-hailing app, only to flee without paying upon reaching the RHB Bank in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.
The more recent encounter took place via a different platform, possibly indicating that the passenger had been banned from the initial app. Suspecting the passenger's intentions from the start, the driver strategically placed his in-car camera to capture a clear view of the passenger's face throughout the journey.
During the ride, the passenger requested a loan of RM 100, promising that his sister would cover the full fare, including toll charges, once they reached the RHB Bank in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh. The driver cautiously agreed, all the while contemplating involving the police. His plan was to take the passenger to the nearby Pandamaran police station.
However, just as they were about to enter the police station premises, the passenger suddenly jumped out of the vehicle and fled. It appears that the passenger had caught onto the driver's intentions. The driver's motive behind this ordeal was purely to bring the individual to justice, having fallen victim to a similar deception via the ride-hailing app previously.
This incident serves as a stark reminder to all ride-share drivers to exercise vigilance when dealing with passengers, especially those who exhibit suspicious behaviour. It is crucial for drivers to prioritize their safety and take necessary precautions to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
