At their Taman Tabanak, Lahad Datu, house yesterday, the daughter of the district police head of Lahad Datu passed away after taking a fatal shot with her father's firearm.
At 12:42 PM, the 14-year-old victim was discovered in a room within their home.
According to New Straits Times, Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail, the head of the Lahad Datu police department, is believed to have been in his office at the district police headquarters at the time of the incident.
According to reports, he left his gun at home, and it is thought that his daughter handled it before unintentionally killing herself.
When contacted by Bernama, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain verified the occurrence and stated that additional inquiries are currently in progress.
"The public is advised not to speculate on any matters," he stated.
On April 1, Dzulbaharin was appointed head of police at Lahad Datu.
