COVID-19 has continued to spread in Malaysia. As of March 16, there are 553 confirmed cases in Malaysia. The sharp increase in the number of confirmed cases in the country has caused panic among the people!
Prime Minister officially announced that there will be a nationwide movement restriction order effective from March 18, 2020 (Wednesday) to March 31, 2020, to control the spread of the coronavirus and the scope of people's activities. This control order refers to the Prevention of Disease Transmission Act 1988 and the Police Act 1967.
The rules within the nationwide movement restriction order include:
1. Ban on all assemblies (regardless of whether it is a religious group, cultural group or others).
2. Citizens are forbidden to enter and exit. 14 days of self-quarantine and a medical examination are necessary for those coming back from abroad.
3. Foreign tourists are not allowed to enter Malaysia.
4. All kindergartens, primary schools, high schools, colleges, and private and public universities have been instructed to close.
5. All government and private premises will also be closed, except those involved in essential services such as water, electricity, energy, telecommunications, postal, transportation, irrigation, oil, gas, fuel, lubricants, broadcasting, finance, banking, health, pharmacy, fire, prison, port, airport, safety, defense, cleaning, retail, and food supply.
Don’t worry about not being able to buy necessities
Retailers and pharmacies will still be opened during this period. Our daily consumables such as food, beverages, and medicines can be purchased in various places, so don't stock up goods. We need to take a rational look at the epidemic and reserve some sources for others. The Prime Minister also explained that all supplies including masks are adequate.
